I’ve been resisting the green smoothie trend for a long time. But no more!
This month, for Secret Recipe Club, I was given Fit Mama Real Food, and reveal day happens to be today, on the last day of #HotSummerEats. What is summer without a refreshing smoothie?
Heather’s refreshing Green Orange Mango Banana Smoothie recipe made me totally nervous. Spinach in a smoothie? Ew! I’m an adventurous eater, but for some reason, the thought of spinach in my smoothies always made me wrinkle my nose.
If fact, as much as I wanted a smoothie recipe for the last day of #HotSummerEats, I really expected to hate it (sorry Heather!), so I picked out a bunch of back-ups, including this Crockpot Berry Cobbler recipe (which I still intend to try later this month, because it sounds amazing).
But now that I’ve actually tried a green smoothie…I am a total convert! I never thought I’d like spinach in a fruit smoothie, but the overall flavor was really good – it tasted more like banana than anything. Jeffrey’s parents were visiting, and his dad tried one too…and also loved it.
These were a total success, and I’ve made them several times since initially trying them! It’s the perfect summer pick-me-up. So, thank you to Heather and Fit Mama Real Food for teaching me that green smoothies are AWESOME!
Like I mentioned, today is not only Secret Recipe Club, but also the last day for #HotSummerEats. We have a really cool giveaway going on which you can check out here, and here are some great summer recipes from other bloggers who are also participating:
And here’s the smoothie recipe. I promise you – if you love fruit smoothies, you will love this! Don’t let the spinach scare you!
This refreshing green smoothie is perfect for breakfast of as a pick-me-up snack on a hot summer day. Don't let the spinach scare you - the fruit flavor in this smoothie is amazing.
Ingredients
- 1 mango, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 banana, frozen and chopped
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3-4 cups fresh spinach
- 1-2 cups ice
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients except ice in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Add ice, one handful at a time until you get the right smoothie consistency for your tastes. Blend as you go to make sure that all chunks are broken up.
Notes
You can add a few protein powder if desired.
If you have never heard of Secret Recipe Club, I highly recommend checking it out! It’s an amazing group of bloggers who “trade” blogs (secret-Santa-style) every month so we can branch out and try new recipes. Once a month, we have a reveal day where everyone finds out who made a recipe from your blog! It’s a lot of fun! 🙂
Here are the other bloggers who revealed their Secret Recipe Club recipes today:
Enjoy!

Hi Allison,
We would really enjoy your smoothie, it looks delicious. It’s great cooking with you in the SRC!
Miz Helen
Allison, I had to giggle a bit reading your thoughts on a green smoothie, because I felt the same way the first time I tried one. I love spinach, but the thought of drinking it just didn’t appeal to me. ..until I tried it. YUM!
Ok, that does it! I’m going to finally give it a try, too! I’ve been wrinkling my nose about spinach smoothies for too long! 😀 Great SRC pick!! 🙂
So glad to have another green smoothie convert now!! The mango and orange in that one make it especially refreshing on hot days, love it!
I have to say, I’m in the same boat – not highly interested in drinking my greens! But maybe I’ll have to change my mind after I try it? 🙂
Seriously, I expected to HATE it…it sounds so gross! But they are DELICIOUS!
This is similar to my favorite green monster smoothie but I don’t use orange juice in mine. At least not until now I gotta try it.
Wonderful flavors in that smoothie.
Ok, I’ll give it a try–I need to grab some spinach and since you went into it kicking and screaming (like I am), I’ll trust your judgement and give it a go!
Nice! I can’t wait to try making my own green smoothies when our blender arrives. 🙂
I’ve also been resisting green smoothies – maybe I should give this a try.
