This Old Fashioned Cream Cheese Dip recipe was given to me by a family member over 30 years ago, and I still make it at least a few times every year. The dip reminds me of a thicker version of the dressing that is put on an Amish macaroni salad. It has diced onions, bell peppers, and celery throughout the dip.
I love making dips for parties and holidays, because people naturally congregate around the dip bowl. That’s what it is all about right? Connecting with friends and family members you haven’t seen in a while. Whenever I make this dip, there are people sitting or standing around it and chatting, even long after they’ve eaten their fill.
Tortilla chips, pretzels, any type of cracker, vegetables… they can all be dunked in the dip. I usually make up a platter of options for dunkers so everyone can choose their favorite, but I always include celery and carrots at the very least so that we have a few healthier options.
This dip is my husband’s favorite, and I love to make recipes that he enjoys… though I have to say he probably likes this Coconut Cream Pie more! Oh well, at least with this dip, we get some vegetables with our snack.
If you can, make this dip the night before, so all the flavors can marry. Take it along to you family picnics or any party. It would also be perfect for a tailgate. Guaranteed, everyone will ask you for the recipe! Here it is:
