It likely comes as no surprise to you that I love sangria. And yes, I have a favorite recipe! Most of the time, sangria is made with dark red wine, but that’s not my favorite, so my recipe switches things up a little.
It’s more of a “blush” sangria, and it also uses a lot of mixer to help water it down a bit. It’s so tasty that you want a few glasses of it, but you don’t want to get drunk!
Sangria is one of those recipes that’s hard to mess up. It’s wine and chopped up fruit, but the particulars are up to you. So here’s my favorite way to make sangria…but play with it! You’re only limited by your imagination.
- 1 bottle “Puff” wine from Peaks of Otter winery (500 ml)
- 1/4 bottle peach schnapps
- 1/2 bottle of carbonated flavored water
- watermelon (chunked)
- orange sections
Puff wine is only available in Virginia directly from Peaks of Otter, or you can order online from VinoShipper. You can use something comparable if you don’t have this option available. It’s a light, sweet apple wine with dragon fruit flavors (hence the name). Look for an apple wine if you can’t get Puff!
I use cheapo peach schnapps since it’s mixed in. You can’t tell the different! I also use the cheapo store brand carbonated flavored water, usually peach or watermelon flavor if you can find it. I use about 1/2 of a bottle, but you could leave this out or use more if you want a less alcoholic drink.
Then, I just chunk up watermelon and add orange sections to the mix to fill up the rest of the pitcher. Chill for a few hours and then serve over ice. Yum!
Of course, you can also add other fruits: berries, apple, grapes, melon, mango, pineapple, peach, kiwi, etc. Some people also add ingredients like brandy, honey, orange juice, 7 up/Sprite, lemon juice, and lime juice.
