We don’t do a ton of sponsored posts here on The PinterTest Kitchen, but this is a cause I feel strongly about, since my boyfriend was in the Navy. I hope you’ll comment below for the chance to win the grand prize – $500 donated in your name to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
Wine? Support for our troops and there families? Chocolate cupcakes? Oh, let’s be honest…you had me at wine.
CK Mondavi is a veteran-owned winery in the Napa Valley, and they’re doing something pretty cool that I want to support whole-heartedly: a percentage of each CK Mondavi bottle sold between May and August is donated to Intrepid Fallen Heroes (up to $50,00). This organization is funded completely by public donations, and they support the families of troops who have been wounded or killed. The day Jeffrey came home (see below) was one of the best of my life. I couldn’t imagine getting that phone call that your partner isn’t coming home.
In case you don’t like to drink wine, we tested out a yummy chocolate cupcake recipe that uses wine – so you can pick up a few bottles of CK Mondavi wine to make this recipe. They sent us Chardonnay and Cabernet to try, but if you’re going to be sipping while baking and like other varieties, any dry or semi-dry wines would work in this recipe.
(For the record, we really enjoyed the CK Mondavi wine! In our family, we tend to prefer sweet or semi-sweet wines rather than dry wines, but these were pretty good…especially considering that they’re each available for less than $10 at the grocery store!)
On a personal note, I want to encourage you to support our troops and vets. I’ve seen first-hand how difficult it is to get by on an enlisted’s salary, and the problems facing vets after getting out of the military. I feel very fortunate that Jeffrey never had to fire his weapon while in the military, but most are not so lucky, and the emotional scars that causes can last a lifetime.
Okay, onto the recipe:
These chocolatey cupcakes are perfect for any red wine lover, and the creamy cabernet frosting pairs perfectly with the cake. Ingredients Instructions

We’re a military family too and I agree that it is important to support the families who have loved ones who don’t come home. I couldn’t imagine that either. Lots of hugs and loves to anyone waiting for their soldier to come home!
Lots of love to our military! I would hate being away from my husband for that long, so I have a lot of respect for families that sign up for that in order to protect our country!
