Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake Mix Brownies

Cake Mix BrowniesI’m a fan of easy cake mix recipes, since I’m not as good of a baker as Jess and our Mom (Sharon). Everyone I know loves the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies our family makes, and the Chocolate Pumpkin Muffins I made a few months ago were a big hit.

But there’s always room in the recipe box for another cake mix baked good! So, when I saw a pin featuring chocolate chocolate chip cookies made from a cake mix, I had to try it!

Guys…I hate to say it, but I’ve since lost that pin. I don’t know what happened to it! Chalk it up to late night chocolate cravings, because I must have categorized it incorrectly. I found a similar recipe here using a white/yellow cake mix, but for the life of me I cannot find the original pin or any site out there with this specific recipe! So if this is your recipe, leave a comment and I’ll be happy to credit you.

Enough about lost pins. On to the recipe!

This is a super simple recipe. You only need four ingredients, which you quite possible already have in your house: a chocolate cake mix, eggs, butter, and chocolate chips.

Oh, and the fifth ingredient which is almost in every late-night chocolate recipe:

Gard Vintners Wine

It’s not actually in the recipe, but it eases the pain of baking a bit, so it’s completely necessary. This white wine is called Freyia and it’s from Gard Vintners. I got of a heck of a deal on a case of wine from Gard on Wine Woot once, and this was my favorite from the selection.

Gotta love Woot.

Anyway, back to the recipe. There’s really only two step: combine all the ingredients and press into a cake pan. Then, just bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

Okay, technically I guess that’s three steps, but you don’t really do anything during the baking process except perhaps drink more wine, so it doesn’t count.

The “batter” is really thick, so you have to press it into the pan. These aren’t traditional brownies. They’re more like a cross between a brownie and a cookie. As you can see, the brownies will lighten in the oven while baking (it wasn’t just the lighting in my kitchen, I swear).

That’s it – you’re ready to enjoy!

I will caution that these brownie-cookie thingies are pretty crumbly. They’ve great for outdoor events where you don’t have to worry about a few stray crumbs. They’re not so great if you have a dog sitting at your feet and just waiting for little morsels of chocolate to fall. But even though they’re a little on the dry side, they’re still pretty good, and they are downright perfect for crumbling into some ice cream, which as you might remember from the Rainbow Cookie recipe, is a favorite for us Boyer girls!
